(“LVLEA”) offers Category I, Category II to I
Upgrades, and Category II POST Certifications. The LVLEA instructors are
recognized as the elite law enforcement professionals and current subject
matter experts from agencies spanning the entire State of Nevada, including
instructors from the Nevada Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and
Training ("POST"). Our instructors and staff continuously develop and
refine the training and curriculum to the success of academy cadets and
graduates.
The academy prepares new officers for the demanding
day-to-day situations that require sound judgment and experience. The training
develops skills necessary to safely and strategically meet the needs of the
communities we serve. Upon completion of the academy, graduates can be hired by
any Nevada Law Enforcement Agency (approximately 132 criminal justice agencies)
and certified as a Category I peace officer.
ALL cadets must meet the following minimum requirements:
· Be a citizen of the United States of America.
· Possess a valid driver’s license.
· Must not be less than 21 years of age.
· Have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
· Meet POST physical fitness requirements.
· Have no prior felony or domestic violence convictions.
Each of our
courses significantly exceeds the POST mandated training curriculum required to
enforce the general criminal laws of the State of Nevada. Tuition varies
dependent on the course training selected.
Category I POST Certification (800+
hours) ~ The Category I POST Academy
operates Monday - Thursday from 5:30pm - 11:30pm and all day Saturday and
Sunday. The tuition cost is $4,500. Unaffiliated Cadets are welcome, but you are
required to undergo a comprehensive background check.
Category II to I POST Upgrade Certification
(500+ hours)
~ The Category
II to I Upgrade POST Academy generally operates 2 to 3 week days from 5:30pm -
11:30pm and all day on Sunday. The
tuition cost is $3,600. Unfortunately, Nevada State Law requires that all students must be
employed by a Nevada Law Enforcement Agency and maintain an active Category II
certificate to qualify.
Category II POST Certification (400+
hours)
~ The Category II POST Academy generally operates
2 to 3 week days from 5:30 – 11:30pm and all day on Saturday. The tuition cost is $1,900. Unaffiliated Cadets are welcome, but you are
required to undergo a comprehensive background check.
